Would You Like to get a Copy of the First Season of the IT Crowd?

Uncategorized September 22nd, 2007

The DVD of the first season of the IT Crowd was released when I was in Canada recently. I was unable to locate a copy at a store. So, my wife ordered it from Amazon.ca. I just received it a few days ago.  If you are a die hard fan of the series give it a try and let me know if you have any troubles. But I am excited.

I don’t think when Keith introduced me to the series the IT Crowd he ever anticipated how much of a groupie  I would become.

PowerShell on dnrTV!

Scripting September 14th, 2007

Scott Hanselman recently was on dnrTV! discussing PowerShell.  dnrTV! is a video podcast about .NET development; however, on this episode (#82), they discuss PowerShell.

Scott walked through the installation of Powershell, as well as a really useful extension (MOW’s PowerTab).  The remainder of the episode covers some of the basic structure of PowerShell, as well as how to access the .NET Framework from PowerShell.

If you are interested in learning about PowerShell, this is a great start.  It might be something to watch over the weekend!
Enjoy!

Episode 16 – Popcorn’s Ready!

Podcast September 13th, 2007

Recorded: September 11, 2007

Your Hosts: Keith Albright, Rich Niemeier, and Steve Murawski

Show Length: 1:21:03

Regular show this time. If you were expecting a Special Topics episode, we’ve decided we won’t be doing them every other episode. It will probably be once per month.

In this episode; Rich tells how popcorn can kill you, Keith’s report on Podcamp Philly, and Steve reports on the Open ID Project. Steve has some good things to say about Microsoft’s Windows PowerShell and DevCenter. Keith talks about problems trying to buy Allied Telesis switches, a good article on UTM, and a timely utility gleaned from the ‘Casting From The Server Room’ podcast.

We round it out with our website picks and, as usual, we hope you enjoy.

Lastly, I forgot to include a link for Bre Pettis’ work. Check him out at imakethings.com.

Podcamp Philly Report – Day 2

Podcamp Philly 2007 September 10th, 2007

I was able to make it back to Podcamp Philly for Day 2.  This time I was prepared and brought a camera (two in fact).  Here are a couple of shots……

Me & Bre Pettis of the Make Podcast

Me and Bre Pettis of the Make Magazine video podcast.  He had us do a serious shot and a casual shot.  I look like a lunatic in the serious shot, so I posted this one.

Mark Blevis' session on Developing Communities

Sitting in on Mark Blevis’ session on developing communities.  Mark produces several podcasts and also taught some great sessions on audio editing techniques.

General shot of the registration area.

Day two saw some drop off in attendance (I didn’t think I was even going to make it), but the numbers were still very good.

T. Marrone Artist and Podcaster

Todd Morrone from Used Wigs Radio dropped in and was offering free artwork generated on the spot.  He even made it interactive and had you begin the drawing with a few lines and he would flesh it out.  I drew a basic representation of the Apple logo and have a video of him developing it out to a beautiful Picasso-esque pair of faces. (I’m probably getting the art terms wrong, but it is definitely beautiful work).  I am going to try to post the video somehow as you just have to see it.

Chris Penn on Podcast Marketing

Chris Penn of the Financial Aid Podcast teaching how to market your podcast, demographics, etc.  Very informative.

That was it for me.  If you want to see notes of the sessions, visit the Mike Tech Show or Caffination Podcast websites as Mike and Paul  were blogging their notes in real time.  Mike even UStreamed a couple sessions on Sunday and you can find them there.

Keep an eye out for a Podcamp coming to your area and plan to attend.  If you can help out with organizing or hosting a session, please do so.  I intend to get involved next year now that I know it exists.

Podcamp Philly Report

Podcamp Philly 2007 September 8th, 2007

I attended day one of Podcamp Philly today and it was great. I was able to meet up with Mike Smith of the Mike Tech Show.

Me and Mike Smith

Fortunately, he remembered to bring a digital camera and was kind enough to snap a couple pix and send them to me. Mike introduced be to Paul from the Caffination podcast. Paul is also from Philadelphia and we dubbed ourselves the Three Philly Tech Guys.

The Philly Tech Guys

I wasn’t able to get a picture with him, but Bre Pettis from the Make Magazine Video Podcast was there as well  Maybe tomorrow if I can get back.

The content was great. I attended sessions on search engine optimization, audio editing, using your voice effectively, and handling corporate sponsors (should that ever come up). I might be able to make it back tomorrow and get a few pictures myself.
