I have been using Live Mesh for 2 months now, and for the most part I'm very happy with it. I find that the RDC reaction time is very slow compared to LogMeIn, but I know it is still a CTP and things will get better with updates and feed back. The one thing that does frustrate me with Live Mesh is that you have to go through a Windows Live log on page to connect. Usually this is not an issue however working for a school district as my day job we have to block this site because of our policies on messaging programs. It just wish there was an alternative for the logon page, since if we allow access to Live Mesh we would also be allowing access to Web Messengers.

Julian - Unfortunately, yes I am aware of the problem and have been unable to resolve it. I did re-route cables, but I think I need to get a power conditioner for the PC the audio converter is running on. (It only appears when I hit record.) I will keep working on it and we appreciate your patience.

I like the content of the podcasts but I'm having a hard time listening to them due to the high pitched tone that appears in a lot of the podcast. It sounds similar to an "alternator whine" that you sometimes get if you route your audio cables to close to the power cables... Are you guys aware of the noise in your podcast? Am I the only one that can hear it?

Just found a NetworkWorld article that ESXi Update 2 has a licensing bug that causes this problem as well. Apparently lots of people are affected. Prevents new VM's from starting, but currently running VM's should be fine. They indicate you can roll-back the system date and can start VM's.

Petri,

Since I don't have it installed, I can only go by the manual. It indicates you didn't need to enter a key during install, but will not allow you to start any VM's. To enter a key post-install, go to Options --> Licensing and Serial Numbers in the VMWare Management Interface. It should show you that there are no keys installed and allow you to enter the key you have to activate.

It may require a reboot if the new key changes the max number of processors licensed.

I hope that helps. Let me know.

Thanks Keith,

I have:
"VMware ESXi Update 2 License xxxxx-xxxxx-xxxxx-xxxxxx-xxxxx
This license key is only valid for VMware ESXi 3.5 Update 2 and later"

But my install never asked that key and I have no idea where to put it.

Petri,

I haven't loaded it yet. I am waiting for some decent hardware to come available. Did you obtain a registration license key? I know with the VMWare Server on Windows, you obtained a key through their website at no cost to activate the server. It looks like you should have received a key when you downloaded it. The ESXi site (http://www.vmware.com/download/esxi/) indicates:

* The license key issued using the Free Download flow cannot be registered on the VMware License Portal.

* This license key is only valid for VMware ESXi 3.5 Update 2 and later.

So, it looks like you might have to enter a key in the software. I hope that helps.

Has somebody got that vmware esxi server really work?
I downloaded it and installed it but it doesn't let me do any virtual machines.

It just keep saying me like this when I try to start my virtual machine:

"
This product has expired.
Be sure that your host machine's date and time are set correctly.
There is a more recent version available at the VMware Web site: "http://www.vmware.com/info?id=4".
